Linn County Farm Bureau Education Outreach serves as a local resource for educators who want to teach about agriculture. Iowa is a leading producer of agriculture products and yet only 2% of Americans live on a farm and as consumers and producers we need to lessen the gap.

An agriculture literate person understands and communicates the source and value of agriculture as it affects all aspects of life.

Why Teach Agriculture?

Agriculture provides local connections to math, science and social studies

concepts. By offering agriculture in the classroom we can create real-world STEM opportunities. The National Agriculture Literacy Themes align with 90 Iowa Core science standards.

National Agriculture Literacy Themes:

1. Agriculture & the Environment
2. Plants & Animals for Food, Fiber & Energy
3. Food, Health & Lifestyle
4. Culture, Society, Economy & Geography
5. Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics

About Morgan, Education Outreach Coordinator

Morgan Hibbs graduated in May, 2017 from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Agriculture and Life Science

Through her time at Iowa State University, Morgan held internships with Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer Program, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Women in Ag, 4-H STEM Camps, and the Iowa State Daily. Morgan has since moved back to Johnson County to be close to the family farm.

As the Education Outreach Coordinator, Morgan visits classrooms preK-12 educating about agriculture. "I enjoy creating lessons and I am excited to grow youth awareness on the importance of agriculture."

Picking Wild Flowers and FarmHouse Flowers is my personal website/blog. All opinions are my own. I enjoy writing about life on our beef farm, my cut-flower adventure, and life in general.
